History of the Low Arousal Approach
Low Arousal Training
This course is designed to introduce participants to the Low Arousal Approach, a person-centred, non-confrontational method of managing challenging behaviour, particularly for individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism. Originally developed from observational data in the late 1980s, this approach focuses on understanding how staff and carers can inadvertently trigger behaviours of concern. The aim is to equip learners with practical strategies to manage crises through prevention, de-escalation, and safe interventions.
