About The Course

Paediatric Basic Life Support or PBLS, describes a set of basic life saving first aid techniques given to children who need it. This may include cardiac arrest, difficulty breathing, or blocked airway. The aim of BLS is to maintain blood circulation and breathing until medical help arrives.

This course covers the theory of Paediatric Basic Life Support skills and includes skills for child and infant as well as variations on infant CPR. The course includes safety, precautions, initial assessment, recovery position, CPR, compression-only CPR, and choking. This is ideal for care workers, nurses or medical professionals needing theory training or refresher training.

  • Outline what to do in an emergency situation, including what to do when a child is choking and how to get them into the recovery position
  • Explain how to carry out an ABCDE assessment

  • Describe how to confirm cardiac arrest
  • Describe how to start and maintain effective chest compressions
  • Explain how to report and record details of an emergency event
