About The Course

This module aims to provide you with standard principles and best practice guidelines in relation to clinical and dynamic risk assessments in mental health care settings. Risk assessment is an important part of working safely with service users. It helps healthcare staff work in a way which safeguards both service user and personal safety.

Learning Outcomes

Define clinical risk assessment, and appreciate the difference between static and dynamic risk factors
Explain the process of a clinical risk assessment using the 5 stage model and standardised risk assessment instruments
Appreciate the importance of managing patient risk
Define dynamic risk assessment
Recall the 3As model of dynamic risk assessment
Explain ways of managing patient risk
Be aware of the care programme approach, and appreciate its relevance to risk assessment and management
Know how to record a risk assessment
Appreciate the risk assessment review process
Apply the principles of risk assessment to a simulated scenario
Appreciate the importance of local processes, and know where to find more information regarding local risk assessment procedures
